e Prison Fellowship Conference, “Beyond Retribution
– Advancing the Law and Order Debate” was an appeal
for a more enlightened approach to the problem of
crime and the issue of punishment. Judges, former gang
members, policy advisers, academics and members
of the community gathered to talk about alternatives
approaches to imprisonment, about sentencing reform,
and the role of rehabilitation and reintegration in the
