Based on several years of experience, the Edmonton Victim Offender Mediation Society (EVOMS) expresses its commitment to victim-offender mediation as both appropriate and effective. Hence, EVOMS desires to work with others in the development, implementation, and extension of a restorative justice approach to criminal justice. This applies particularly to the possibility of developing restorative justice in Alberta’s justice system. Toward this end, in this paper EVOMS describes the basic ideas of restorative justice and responds to key questions about it. Additionally, EVOMS explores how it can help with implementation of restorative justice in the Alberta system.

[Note added in March 2004: EVOMS merged with the Edmonton Community Mediation Society in 2000 to create the Mediation and Restorative Justice Centre.]
