In addition to the Sinhalese and Tamils in Sri Lanka, there are significant groups of Sinhalese and Tamils living outside of Sri Lanka (the diasporas to which he refers). In this essay the author considers the roles those groups play in the conflict in Sri Lanka. In particular he explores the roles those groups may play in peacemaking and peacebuilding in their respective countries and in Sri Lanka. In this concrete context he defines reconciliation and examines four essential elements of reconciliation.
