Reconciliation involves making peace between people. Evelyn Scott – Chair of the Aboriginal Reconciliation Council – argues that the Australian people need to be peacemakers because reconciliation is needed between them and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In this regard, Scott traces the history and work of the Council. Particular attention is paid to two documents prepared by the Council: one consists of a framework for and declaration towards reconciliation; the other sets out four strategies to advance reconciliation.
