“Religion and the moral order reconsidered.”

Stark, Rodney.
June 4, 2015

Source: (1995) The IARCA Journal 6 (June): 6-9.

Stark’s article addresses conflicting research findings on the relationship between religiousness and deterrence of deviant behavior. Does religion deter deviant behavior or not? In considering the question, Stark presents a sociological theory of religious effects and key data on religiousness and deviant behavior. He also draws out some of the implications of all of this for corrections, including his recommendation that the community corrections movement forge an alliance with the religious aspirations of the American people.
