A staff writer for the Arlington Catholic Herald in northern Virginia, Patricia Rudy here reports on a March 2001 conference on restorative justice sponsored by Catholic Charities and held at Saint Mary of Sorrows Parish in Fairfax, Virginia. The conference was entitled, “Toward Healing a Broken System – From Retribution to Restoration: A Dialogue on Restorative Justice.â€? It consisted of presentations by several speakers and a panel-audience dialogue. The aim was to explore new approaches to criminal justice in the context of Christianity, the principles of Catholic social teaching, and the experience of current practitioners of restorative justice.
