Lana Leonard is a storyteller, author, and consultant. This article reports on her involvement in leading a storytelling workshop at a correctional facility in Colorado. She did this with twenty SHAPE UP volunteers (inmates) at the facility. The aim of the workshop was to help inmates sharpen their storytelling skills focusing on crime prevention. The SHAPE UP participants share their stories with court-ordered juvenile offenders and their families in the hope that young offenders will take responsibility for their actions and redirect their lives in productive patterns.
