My visit to Bolivia was a fascinating
experience.The opportunity to be involved
in introducing Restorative Justice to
Bolivia arose after I did an introductory
workshop, conflict resolution and
mediation for CEREFE. This is an
institution for children with disabilities
and their parents situated in El Alto, a
shanty town of 80,000 people above La
Paz city. CEREFE’s director was so
taken with the workshop that he asked me
to train all his staff in mediation skills, to
deal better with the many conflicts in the
school. A particular issue was the longrunning
conflict between education and
health staff. (excerpt)
