I would like to talk about the principles which I think should govern the practice of restorative justice. I would like to take the opportunity, as the title of the conference invites me, to talk about the Big Society. In particular, why I think restorative justice is a reflection of what we are talking about when describing the Big Society and why it is such an important idea. Above all, I would like to talk about how I think we need to describe restorative justice, and how we embed it at the heart of the criminal justice system. (excerpt)
