Joanna Mates is a practicing Family Conferencing Facilitator who has learned first hand the benefits of restorative justice for those involved. In the conferences, victims are empowered and offenders are given the opportunity to make amends. The victim’s freedom of expression lets the offender know first hand that the impact of the crime. The facilitators remain neutral and assist in helping the victim and the offender to come to a peaceful resolution. Joanna sees this as “justice in the truest sense of the word.”
