“Rethinking Criminal Justice Policies: Afro-Restorative Justice as a Means to Address Disproportionate Minority Confinement”

Over the past few decades, DMC has been a persistent problem for both the Black (and other communities of color) and the criminal justice system. Restorative justice based in a culturally specific framework, Afrocentric theory, could be used to address this issue. This paper explores this approach and critically examines underlying principles needed to address previously unaddressed issues in disproportionate confinement with DMC. The paper argues that this approach could not only deal with this specific issue, but could be used to strengthen communities of color. (author’s abstract)
