The Centre for Adolescent Rehabilitation (C-FAR), in Devonshire, England, is a residential program of intensive personal development and social education for male offenders between 16 and 24 years of age. It is based on the belief that relationships are central to understanding and responding to the causes of crime. Trevor Philpott is the chief executive of C-FAR. In this article he sketches this relational approach – or relational justice approach – to dealing with youth crime. In particular he discusses the significance of relationships and mentoring, and the relational training philosophy.
