These 24 papers present theoretical, legal, and empirical analyses of issues related to sex offenders and sex offender treatment, with emphasis on the advantages of replacing a retributive model of justice with a restorative model. Individual papers focus on the assessment and treatment of empathy deficits among sex offenders; the relationships among sex offending, attachment style, and intimacy deficits; attitudes and behaviors toward alcohol in convicted sex offenders; factors related to child sexual abuse; and the use of pretreatment to deal with sex offenders in denial. Additional papers discuss the use of strategic, systemic, and linquistic principles to enhance treatment compliance; deviant sexual fantasies; adolescent sex offenders; elderly sex offenders; Hispanic sex offenders; and Native American sex offenders. Further papers focus on treatment and supervision of sex offenders, including recidivism predictions, community supervision, the assessment and treatment of incest families, therapeutic communities for sex offenders, the use of drama therapy, and therapy facilitated by animals. Articles on legal issues in sex offender treatment focus on legislation related to sexual predators, supervised release, and sex offender registration and notification statutes and constitutional challenges to them.
