A youth justice FGC is more than just a meeting between
offenders, their victims, supporters and officials to sort out matters of offending and plan penalties. It also offers a creative opportunity for learning, and a chance to influence or bring about behavioural change.
Section 4(f)(i) of the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families Act 1989 states that the young person should be responsible and accountable for his or her actions. For young people to do this, they need to understand as fully as possible the effects of their offending. (excerpt)
