The effects of restorative justice programming: A review of the empirical. RR2000-16e.

In recognition of limits and problems with the current criminal justice system in Canada, many have advocated restorative justice as an alternative, with restorative justice programming increasing in application. Research into such programming, however, is nascent. Little is certain, from an empirical perspective, about the effects of restorative justice programs on victims, offenders, communities, and the criminal justice system. The authors of this paper examine the breadth and depth of existing empirical research into restorative justice programs and practices to summarize the knowledge base and to point to gaps in the research.
