The third corner: The community and restorative justice in Northern Ireland

In the context of the long-standing troubles in Northern Ireland, Brian Gormally contends that the organized community has a necessary and vital role to play in providing safety in neighborhoods and in contributing to restorative justice projects. In this regard he points to a Development Statement of Community Restorative Justice (Ireland), an umbrella group for community restorative projects in Republican areas of Northern Ireland. That statement identifies “three cornersâ€? as affected by crime and therefore as necessary to justice: the offender; the victim; and the community. Gormally discusses the community restorative justice model in Northern Ireland and the government response to this movement and its efforts.
