Victims and witnesses, developments and issues in England and Wales

Reasbeck, Nicola
June 4, 2015

Source: (2001) Paper presented a mini conference of the International Association of Prosecutors, held at The Hague, 28-30 March.

Nicola Reasbeck points out that the victim of crime has been displaced from any central role in the criminal justice system in the last century and a half. In recent years, however, awareness of the needs of victims and witnesses has increased. This is the background for government initiatives to improve the treatment of victims and witnesses in the criminal justice system in England and Wales. Reasebeck identifies and discusses a number of recent developments whereby the government is moving to support the needs and rights of victims and witnesses in criminal cases.
