The Vermont Dept. of Corrections commissioned a survey to determine the public opinion regarding the state of corrections. That the criminal justice system is in need of top-to-bottom reform was the consensus among 75% of the surveyed group and 93% said that violent offenders should serve a full term. The expectations of the public from offenders can be summarized as acceptance and responsibility for the crime committed and from corrections, the responsibility to reinstate social contract.
