Sacro’s Youth Justice Services operate in twenty of Scotland’s 32 local authorities. The service originally operated as an alternative to a Children’s Hearing, providing an opportunity for the young person responsible for an offence to reflect on their actions, taking responsibility for their behavior and make amends to the person harmed. The services received 1784 referrals in 2006/07, and there was a participation rate of 63%. When both people agreed to participate, 91% of cases resulted in a satisfactory outcome. There was a range of agreement outcomes, with 30% of cases resulting in a restorative justice conference or restorative meeting with 8% resulting in some form of reparation. (Excerpt)
